The Land Development Agency (LDA) has announced the imminent commencement of a landmark 562-home development at Parkgate Street in Dublin, marking another major step in the Government’s drive to accelerate housing delivery and increase the supply of affordable homes in high-demand urban locations.

Developed in partnership with Castlethorn, the scheme will be located beside Heuston Station and will feature Parkgate Pointe, a 30-storey, 102-metre tower set to become Ireland’s tallest building. Construction is due to commence in the coming weeks, with completion expected in late 2029.

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD said:

“This development demonstrates the scale of ambition now being delivered through the Government’s housing programme. Backed by record levels of investment for the Land Development Agency, projects such as Parkgate Street are helping to unlock strategically located sites and deliver thousands of new homes where they are needed most.

“The fact that Ireland’s tallest building will form part of a major new housing development is a powerful symbol of our determination to increase housing supply and build vibrant new communities in our cities.”

The project includes four inter-connected apartment blocks, one of which, Parkgate Pointe, is a landmark 30-storey centrepiece that is set to become Ireland’s tallest building.

The new homes on Parkgate Street will be superbly located with Dublin City Centre, Phoenix Park, Kilmainham, the Liberties and Stoneybatter all within easy reach. There is a wide range of facilities, services and cultural amenities nearby and a number of transport options including bike and pedestrian routes, the Luas Red Line, Dublin Bus routes, Irish Rail’s Intercity services and convenient access to the M50.

The project represents a significant example of how Government investment through the LDA is helping to unlock large-scale housing developments that might otherwise not proceed. Through its Project Tosaigh initiative, the LDA is partnering with private developers to accelerate the delivery of homes and increase housing supply, while ensuring that homes are provided at affordable and secure cost-rental rates.
