Construction Drives Employment Growth in Ireland

The Irish labour market reached a record 2.8 million employed in Q2 2025.

Employment in construction surged by 18.4% year-on-year, adding nearly 30,000 jobs.

This sharp rise reflects strong demand for housing, infrastructure, and commercial projects, which has outpaced the supply of skilled labour in recent years.

Despite the rebound, total construction employment (around 190,000 workers) remains 20% below its 2007 peak. This gap highlights both the depth of the 2008–2012 downturn and the ongoing need for skilled workers to meet Ireland’s housing and infrastructure targets.
