As a community-based mental health support, suicide intervention, and bereavement charity, Teac Tom's presence at the event highlights the growing importance of mental health and wellbeing across Ireland's construction industry. Based in Kilkenny and Laois, Teac Tom provides free counselling, a 24/7 support line, walk-in listening services, play therapy for children, suicide intervention services, and support for people bereaved by suicide. The charity also delivers mental health awareness and suicide prevention talks to workplaces, schools, sports clubs, and community organisations throughout Ireland.
Founded in 2014 by Angela Hayes through The Thomas Hayes Trust CLG, Teac Tom was established following the loss of both her husband Tommy and later her son Thomas, who each died by suicide. Inspired by their memory, the charity was created to ensure that individuals and families experiencing mental health challenges or the loss of a loved one would have access to compassionate, community-based support.
Today, Teac Tom continues to provide life-changing services thanks to the generosity of supporters, businesses, fundraising initiatives, and community partnerships.
