New recruitment data has highlighted just how central the construction sector has become to Ireland’s labour market, with the majority of the country’s most sought-after professionals now working in construction-related roles.

According to the latest industry analysis, eight of the ten most in-demand positions in 2025 are directly linked to construction, engineering and skilled trades, underlining the scale of the ongoing skills shortage across the sector.

At the top of the list are project managers, who have emerged as the most heavily recruited professionals nationwide. Demand for these roles has continued to rise year-on-year, driven by the need to deliver large-scale housing, infrastructure and commercial developments on time and on budget. With construction activity accelerating across the country, experienced project managers are now among the most valuable assets for employers.

Close behind are accountants, whose importance to construction firms has grown significantly over the past year. As projects increase in scale and complexity, financial oversight, cost control and compliance have become more critical than ever. This has pushed accountancy roles into second place among the most searched-for professionals.

Site managers, construction supervisors and quantity surveyors also feature prominently, reflecting the industry’s need for strong on-site leadership and accurate project costing. These roles form the backbone of construction delivery, ensuring that projects meet safety standards, stay within budget and progress efficiently.

Engineering and trade-based roles continue to show exceptional demand. Engineers, foremen, electricians and site engineers all rank among the top ten most sought-after professionals, highlighting the urgent requirement for skilled technical talent to support Ireland’s expanding construction pipeline.

While healthcare roles continue to be in demand, construction-related positions have now dominated the rankings for three consecutive years, which is a clear signal of the sector’s growing influence on the national economy.

This surge in demand is being driven by Ireland’s ambitious housing targets, large-scale infrastructure projects and commercial development across both urban and regional areas. As investment flows into transport, renewable energy, data centres and residential construction, employers are competing intensely for experienced professionals.

The findings are based on recruiter search activity within a national CV database containing more than 1.7 million candidates, offering a clear snapshot of where hiring pressure is most concentrated.

With skills shortages showing no sign of easing, industry leaders are increasingly turning to specialist recruitment events and platforms to connect directly with qualified professionals.

Construction Jobs Expo continues to play a vital role in bringing together Ireland’s leading construction employers with jobseekers across engineering, project management, trades and site leadership, helping to bridge the growing talent gap across the sector.
